Ours refuses. Ask it what the theme of the chapter is and it asks what you noticed. Ask it to solve the problem and it asks which step you got stuck on. It keeps asking until the student arrives somewhere themselves — and then it stops.
This is not a new idea. It is the oldest one in teaching. What is new is that it can happen for every student, in every hour, without another person in the room.

A finished essay tells you nothing about who wrote it. A transcript of a student being asked twelve questions, and changing their mind twice, tells you everything.

Not a general model's idea of the subject — the text you actually assigned. Upload it and the tutor works through that, chapter by chapter.

Not a percentage. Which concepts a student can explain and apply, which are half-built, and which have not been touched yet.

Cheating stops being the question.
A tutor that will not give an answer cannot be used to get one.
What it does not do.
It does not grade for you. It does not contact parents. It does not decide what a student is ready for.
Those are yours. The reason the tutor asks questions instead of answering them is the same reason we are not trying to take them.
