Student Safety and Crisis Protocol
Last updated: October 26, 2026
Gocratiq is an AI tutor for students 13 and older, used under a parent's supervision. This page explains the rules the tutor follows to keep young people safe, and what it does if a student may be in danger. It is our published crisis protocol. The short version is in our Terms of Service.
AI chatbots may not be suitable for some minors. You know your teenager best: decide whether Gocratiq suits them, read their chats, and talk with them about how they use AI.
The tutor is an AI, not a human
- Every chat screen says the student is talking to an AI, not a human, and that it can make mistakes.
- While a student is chatting, the app reminds them every hour to take a break, and that the tutor is an AI, not a human.
- If a student asks whether they are talking to a person, the tutor says plainly that it is an AI.
- The tutor's answers, scores and summaries can be wrong. Scores are estimates, not grades.
What the tutor will not do
The tutor follows safety rules written for young users. It will not:
- produce sexual or graphically violent content, or take part in romantic or flirtatious conversation;
- pretend to be a person, a friend or a partner, or claim to have feelings;
- present itself as a doctor, therapist, counselor, lawyer or any other licensed professional, or give medical, mental-health or legal advice;
- ask a student for personal details such as their full name, address, school, phone number, passwords or photos;
- encourage a student to harm themselves or anyone else;
- flatter a student to keep them chatting, or urge them to come back or keep going.
Gocratiq does not show students streaks, points or other rewards for coming back, and sends them no reminders to return.
If a student may be in danger
If a student says or hints that they might hurt themselves, that someone is hurting them, that they are struggling with eating, or that they are otherwise in danger, the tutor:
- sets the lesson aside for that reply, and does not ask a lesson question;
- answers warmly and without judgment, and tells the student they deserve help;
- urges them to talk to a parent, teacher or another adult they trust, right away;
- gives them crisis resources:
- call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, at any time, free;
- text HOME to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line;
- call 911 if they are in immediate danger;
- does not try to counsel them itself. The tutor is not a counselor, and a trained person can help in ways an AI cannot.
What we count. Each time the tutor gives these crisis resources, Gocratiq records that it happened and when — not who it was, and not what was said. We use the count to check that the protocol works, and to report it where the law requires.
What this protocol cannot do. Gocratiq does not watch conversations as they happen, and it does not contact emergency services or a parent on a student's behalf. Parents can read all of their student's chats. If a student is in danger, call 911.
For parents
- You can read every chat your student has with the tutor, and see their progress. Your student is told this: when they first sign in, on every page of their app, and under every chat.
- If you see something that worries you in a chat, talk with your student, and reach out to 988 or your student's doctor for advice.
- You can remove your student, and delete their data, at any time from their dashboard.
Report a problem
If the tutor says something harmful, inappropriate or unsafe, email support@gocratiq.com with the student's name and roughly when it happened. We look into every report. This page will change as we improve the protocol and as the law changes. The date at the top shows the latest version.
